چکیده

Background: Modified radical mastectomy is commonly performed surgery for breast carcinoma. The present study was conducted to compare intra-operative and post-operative surgical outcomes by using monopolar electrocautery ultrasonic shears in MRM. Methods: A randomized prospective with a sample size of 60 patients who were into two groups. One group underwent MRM (Group A) the other one B). Intra-and compared. Results: Group had less blood loss it statistically significant. pain score on post op day 1 However, time drain output but insignificant. complication (seroma formation, wound infection, hematoma formation flap necrosis) B A, patient early removal B, significantly. Conclusions: Ultrasonic significantly lesser bleeding, operative complications, removal, score, when compared group. groups no significant difference time.

A prospective randomized study on management of suction drains in patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy

Background and Objectives: Seroma, a subcutaneous collection of serous fluid, is the most common morbidity after modified radical mastectomy. Closed suction drains are used for drainage of serous fluid after MRM to obliterate the space beneath skin flaps and thus to decrease seroma formation. Amongst various factors that influence the amount of postoperative drainage, the negative suction press...

Harmonic Scalpel versus Electrocautery Dissection in Modified Radical Mastectomy for Breast Cancer: A Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND Despite the common use of conventional electrocautery in modified radical mastectomy for breast cancer, the harmonic scalpel is recently emerging as a dominant surgical instrument for dissection and haemostasis, which is thought to reduce the morbidity, such as seroma and blood loss. But the results of published trials are inconsistent. So we made the meta-analysis to assess the intr...

Ultracision versus electrocautery in performing modified radical mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection for breast cancer: a prospective randomized control trial.

BACKGROUND Treatment for breast cancer has improved dramatically over the decades. Nevertheless, modified radical mastectomy with axillary dissection remains the standard treatment for most patients, especially those with big tumours. The conventional technology is to use diathermy to cut and coagulate blood vessels. The Ultracision dissector has been widely used in laparoscopic surgery and is ...

Coblation vs. Electrocautery Tonsillectomy: A Prospective Randomized Study Comparing Clinical Outcomes in Adolescents and Adults

OBJECTIVES Coblation is operated in low temperature, so it is proposed that tonsillectomy with coblation involves less postoperative pain and allows accelerated healing of the tonsillar fossae compared with other methods involving heat driven processes. However, the results of the previous studies showed that the effect of coblation tonsillectomy has been equivocal in terms of postoperative pai...
